Angela McMahon Named Head Women's Lacrosse Coach At UConn
Angela McMahon has been named head coach of the University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team. McMahon takes over at UConn after most recently serving as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Massachusetts for the last two seasons. This will be the first Division I head coaching job for McMahon who helped UMass reach the Atlantic 10 Championship game this past spring. (more)
 
Lacrosse's Rosenzweig and Schneider Named Jewish All-Americans

UMass lacrosse stars Jackie Rosenzweig, of the women's team and Doc Schneider, of the men's team, have been named First-Team Jewish All-Americans bu the Jewish Sports Review. Defender Rosenzweig was a first-team All-Atlantic selection. Goalie Schneider was an All-New England selection. (more)

University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse head coach Alexis Venechanos has announced the signing of 13 graduating seniors to National Letters of Intent for the 2009 season: Brittany Brigandi (Syracuse, N.Y.), Meghan Brady (Huntington Bay, NY), Dayna Defliese (Garden City, N.Y.), Katie Florence (Norfolk, Mass.), Ali Houlis (West Long Beach, N.J.), Colleen Mulligan (Hanover, Mass.), Jesse O'Donnell (Chicago, Ill.), Danielle Pelletier (Amherst, N.H.), Riley Perry (North Babylon, N.Y.), Michaela Regan (Manhasset, N.Y.), Allie Sabitus (Vestal, N.Y.), Nina Sarcona (Northport, N.Y.), and Brittany Schoen (Pleasanton, Calif.). UMass Falls To Temple 10-3 In Atlantic 10 Championship Game

    A four-goal effort by Brittney Hoffman and a six-goal first half propelled the Temple Owls to the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship over the UMass Minutewomen on Sunday afternoon at McGuirk Stadium. The win gives Temple (13-5) their first Atlantic 10 title since 2004 and clinches them a spot in the NCAA Tournament. UMass (7-11) received goals from Kelsey Schreiner, Jackie Lyons and Jeannette Villapiano. This was the third time in program history that UMass had made it to the conference finals. The Minutewomen knocked off three-time defending A-10 Champions Richmond 10-9 in overtime on Friday to earn a spot in the championship game. Kathleen Typadis, Julie Papaleo and Villapiano were each named to the A-10 All-Tournament Team following Sunday's game.

    Kathleen Typadis scored the game-tying goal with one-second remaining in regulation and then hit the game-winning goal in overtime as the No. 4 seed Massachusetts women's lacrosse team upset No. 1 seed Richmond 10-9 in overtime in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday at McGuirk Stadium. Richmond held an 8-4 halftime lead thanks to five goals from Lexie Marrocco who finished the game with six to tie an A-10 tournament game record. Marrocco's lone goal in the second half was all the scoring the Spiders could muster as the Minutewomen rallied back to knock off the three-time defending Atlantic 10 Champions.

    After winning four of its last six games of the regular season, the UMass women's lacrosse team earned the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament and will face top-seeded Richmond on Friday, April 25 (1 PM) at McGuirk Stadium. This will be the fourth time the two teams have met in tournament play in the all-time series. In the regular season, Richmond defeated the Minutewomen 17-12 in Virginia. This will be the first-ever Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Tournament to be hosted by the University of Massachusetts. This will also be the first time any sport outside of football has held a league championship tournament within the confines of McGuirk Alumni Stadium.
