Judy Dixon One Of Six Inducted Into HOF On Saturday

Many friends and family came out to support UMass Head Women's Tennis Coach Judy Dixon on Saturday, June 21 as she was inducted into the USTA New England Hall of Fame along with five others at historic Newport, R.I. The evening began at 4:15 p.m. with photos and concluded after 9 p.m. with Dixon's final speech. Dixon's induction included letters from both her first coach (Doris Hart) and former doubles partner and famous women's tennis advocate (Billie Jean King). A number from the UMass athletic department were on hand including Head Men's Soccer Coach Sam Koch, former Head Field Hockey Coach Patty Shea, Director of Health Enhancement Robin Harris, and Faculty Athletics Representative Glenn Wong.

  • UMass Women's Tennis Announces 2008-09 Schedule
    UMass Head Women's Tennis Coach Judy Dixon will be inducted into the USTA New England Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Newport, R.I. on Saturday, June 21. Dixon, who owns a 189-151 record in 16 years at UMass, has been a pioneer for women's athletics. Last season, she led the Minutewomen to the top overall seed in the Atlantic 10 Championships and their sixth-straight league semifinal appearance (and 10 of the last 11 years). She will be inducted along with Olivia "Lee" Delfausse, Ralph Stuart, Richard Morse, Samuel V. Schoonmaker III, and Gerald Slobin as the class of 2008. (more)

  • 2008-09 Schedule
    UMass Tennis Head Coach Judy Dixon has announced the Minutewomen's 2008-09 schedule. Coming off their sixth-straight Atlantic-10 Semifinal appearance (and 10 in the last 11 seasons), the Minutewomen continue to play a challenging schedule, highlighted by four matches against NCAA Tournament teams and one against a Division II Quarterfinalist. In total, the team will face 11 different Division I conferences, including the A-10, ACC, America East, Big East, Big 12, CAA, Ivy League, MAAC, Northeast Conference, Patriot League, and Sun Belt Conference.     UMass Tennis Holds End Of Year Banquet
    The UMass women's tennis team held their end of the year banquet handing out awards and naming their captains for the upcoming 2008-09 season. No. 2 doubles and No. 6 singles player Laura Danai recived both the MVP award chosen by the players of the team, and the coach's award for the person that most exemplifies UMass Tennis. Danai finished the season with a 17-11 singles record, the second most wins on the team falling one shy of tying Candynce Boney. She also finished with a 17-12 doubles record winning 16 of those games with partner Maude Lecluyse.

    Boney And Pozar Named To Atlantic 10 First-Team All-Conference

    Candynce Boney and Masha Pozar were named to the Atlantic 10 First Team for the 2008 Season. Boney and Pozar both went 1-1 in No. 1 doubles and singles at the A-10 Championship. Boney finished the season with an 18-10 singles record and a 24-11 doubles record. She lead the team with singles wins, Laura Danai was second with 17. She helped doubles partner Pozar to become the career doubles leader with 74 (24 alone coming this season).

    UMass Falls To Richmond In Third Place Match, 4-0
    UMass fell in the third place match to third-ranked Richmond to solidify their fourth place finish in the conference for the year. The Minutewomen (12-12, 5-2 Atlantic 10) lost the doubles point and Richmond (10-11, 4-2 Atlantic 10) went on to take the first three singles matches and the third place finish in the conference. After being ranked #1 in the tournament after an undefeated Atlantic 10 regular season, UMass took their first game of the tournament ending Saint Louis' shot at the title. But they would go on to fall to Xavier in the next round and eventually lose to Richmond in the third place match.
